Arbor Day Poster Contest
2010 Arbor Day Poster Contest
Calling all 5th Grade Teachers!!!
The Division of Forest Resources invites you and your 5th grade students to be a part of the 2010 Arbor Day National Poster Contest sponsored by NCDFR and the National Arbor Day Foundation. Encourage your students to design an original poster depicting the 2010 contest theme, "Trees are Terrific…and Energy Wise!"
Poster contest activities are designed to:
- Increase student’s knowledge about the importance of diversity in forest ecosystems;
- Provide fun activities to get students excited about learning;
- Provide teachers a creative way to introduce new concepts;
- Correlate with national science, geography and art standards.
Teachers may use all or part of the activity guide to help students appreciate the importance of trees, forests and Arbor Day. Among other rules (PDF), each participating school must choose one school winner. The school winner will be eligible to compete in the state competition. The state winner will receive a U.S. Savings Bond and the teacher of the state winner will receive a $200 check to purchase school supplies. The state winner will then go on to compete in the national contest. At the national competition, the winner can win up to a $1000 savings bond along with lifetime membership with the National Arbor Day Foundation and a $200 check for their teacher. The deadline for entering the poster contest is January 29, 2010.
NEW FOR 2010…WE’RE GOING ELECTRONIC! Starting this year, Poster Contest Activity Guides will no longer be mailed to public and non-public schools with a 5th grade class. Instead, teachers should download the Arbor Day Poster Contest Activity Guide (PDF). For more information, contact State Poster Contest Coordinator Jennifer Rall at 919-857-4849.
